Wareham Fact File
Wareham is located on the River Frome, on a dry point also close to the River Piddle and is a historic maket town
There has been settlement in the area since prehistoric times. The current town was founded by the Saxons though the Romans also settled in the area due to its strategic position
Much of the town was rebuilt in red brick and Purbeck limestone as a result of a fire in 1762. There are many examples of this Georgian architecure to be seen in the town as well as a number of medieval buildings
In the First World War, Wareham became a garrision town
