Blandford Forum is situated on the River Stour
The town has been an important frding point of the river since Ango-Saxon times
'Forum' comes from the Latin, meaning 'market'
A major fire in 1731 destroyed a vast proportion of the town. Over the next 30 years, John and William Bastard rebuilt the town in the fashionable Georgian style of architecture. Many of these building survive to this day and can be seen in the town
The parish church of St Peter and St Paul was built in 1732
